Many if not most of the more widely known greats have gone through phases such as what is spoken of. AWA many of us...it's a pretty commomnplace, natural, & ordinary occurence, actually. Me, too - the Neil phase [join the million-man-march, there!], then other points in between [Simon, for one] to the Vinnie/Weckl/Chambers phase. [Well; I try!!]
One of my friends was the Jeff clone [not a bad thing, nec [img]wink.gif[/img] ]; another, the more Vinnie inspired; still another, heavily Rod influenced. MANY others, the Bonzo or Aldridge clone. Can anyone say, Vinne to Tony? Or Tom Knight to Weckl? [img]wink.gif[/img] [I jest here; maybe it's not nec fair to TK to brand him this way, as he is a fine player, even if some of his approach happens to be reminiscent of DW]...not nec a bad thing either; but DW has such a highly identifiable & uniquely individual style [even tho some Gadd may be evident in there?! [img]wink.gif[/img] ] that it's hard not to notice...
In this day & age it's hard NOT to sound like some of our more illustrious heroes...but that is the goal, eventually. To me, Ersk sounds like himself & no other. On many sessions, naturally, he's one of those guys who often you CAN'T tell it's him [unless perhaps he is allowed to start "letting loose"] - & that's prob the ultimate compliment, even if in what seems to be a "convoluted" sort of way...;cP
It's not that he sounds like everyone else; more like, there are no "registered trademark PE licks" that he falls back on. Which with some in here, can poss be a big thing. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Great display of chops. He is clearly letting us know that his main idol is Virg.
It would ne nice to see him comp over a vamp or groove or play a tune in a group setting, though. Like that other young cat, Jonathan Lundberg.
